The Amazon and poking around Lima
The Amazon and poking around Lima
IA free day! No scheduled activities until the group dinner. Breakfast at 8:30 followed by a meeting with the six members of the main tour group making us a group of 14. We opted out of tour of Inca ruins and explored Lima on our own and on foot. We walked back up to the park and checked out Saturday evening Mass times. We decided to go to a noon Mass and let it substitute. There was a long sermon in Spanish and we did not have our English language missals with us. There were a lot of people at the Mass.
After Mass we wandered through a nearby artisans market and saw some nice sweaters and jewelry. The prices are reasonable and if we don’t see anything more enticing in Cuzco we will go back to the market on Friday when we return to Lima.
We strolled some more looking for a French restaurant that Donald found in the tour book. We found it, but they did not have either the soup or the entrees we wanted so we left. We went back to Locomar and ate at a café – sandwich and beer on a covered balcony with a wide view of the Pacific Ocean. We were able to watch surfers try to catch some waves. There are several nice parks along the Pacific in this area. After that we wandered back to the hotel and took a nap. The weather here is on the cool side with a pretty steady ocean breeze. We had dinner with the whole group at 7 and then went to bed. (We go to bed very early on this trip – often by 9 or 10 o’clock.)
